The CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council (CMBDC) Marketing Professional of the Year Award recognizes and honors an individual who exemplifies excellence in credit union marketing.

This distinction is reserved exclusively for the credit union marketing elite: individuals who, in all aspects of their chosen profession, consistently excel for the benefit of their employer, and the advancement of ideals of the credit union movement.

The Selection Process

A panel of CMBDC Executive Committee members, past winners, and industry professionals will select the Marketing Professional of the Year. Selection will be based upon the candidates' mastery of and contributions to:

  • Marketing as a factor in their credit union's success;
  • Marketing as a management function;
  • Fostering the success of the credit union movement;
  • Enhancing their community through organizational involvement/activism.

Winner Recognition

The winner will be announced at the 15th Annual CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council Conference, held March 16-19, 2008, in Nashville, TN. The winner will receive the following:

  • The prestigious Marketing Professional of the Year award;
  • Recognition in Credit Union Magazine
  • Complimentary registration to the 2009 CMBDC Marketing and Business Development Conference;
  • The opportunity to help select the 2009 recipient and present the award.

Nomination Procedures

To nominate an associate or yourself, complete the online nomination form no later than January 9, 2008. You may nominate more than one person.

All nominees must be from a CUNA-affiliated credit union and must be a current member of the CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council.

The announcement of the 2008 Marketing Professional of the Year will be made at the annual conference, so all nominees should plan on attending the conference March 16-19, 2008, in Nashville, TN.

Entry Procedures

Nominated individuals will be contacted by the CMBDC Nominating Committee and alerted to his/her nomination. Those interested in competing for this prestigious award must submit entry materials no later than January 18, 2008.

To submit your entry, please send five identical binders containing the following information:

  • An executive summary that highlights the following:
    • Current credit union employment responsibilities
    • Credit union system involvement at the:
      • chapter/district level (list years, e.g., 2002-2006)
      • league level (list years)
      • national level (list years)
      • political advocacy
      • other (list years)
    • Community activities and organizational involvement/sponsor relations (if applicable, include how these activities contribute to your marketing perspective)
    • Awards and recognition (may include credit union awards that could be attributed to the support of marketing)
    • Continuing education (includes continuing education and/or credit union-related educational courses and programs undertaken)
    • Special considerations
  • A copy of the past year's marketing plan/goals along with:
    • A brief outline of results
    • An explanation of how your marketing plan supports the business plan of your credit union.
  • Your credit union's last annual report.
  • Three to five samples of your work from the past two years that you feel are exemplary.  Please provide measurable results and your viewpoint behind each piece.
  • A summary that includes your objectives, your overall philosophical viewpoint, vision and core value statements, steps you have taken to achieve goals, and a description of where you think credit union marketing should be in three to five years.  Include in your summary a description of what you are doing that is above and beyond other credit union marketers, how you have worked with management to achieve goals, and how you are reaching out to members and potential members.
  • A color or b/w photo, which may be used for publication in the event you are the award winner.

Entry materials must be received no later than January 18, 2008.
