Member Spotlight: Nicky Tekelidis

In 1998 Nicky Tekelidis joined CD Federal in Concord, California as a teller and has been there ever since—today she is director of marketing and training.

“For nine years this credit union has been the structure of my life,” she says. “I have grown up here. It has seen me through a marriage, two wonderful children, and losing family members. So I preach, live, work, and love my credit union.”

As everyone in the industry knows, rarely does one person handle just one job at a credit union. “So on top of marketing and business development, I also do training,” says Nicky. “I am fortunate enough to keep busy and love what I do.”

Biggest challenge

Trying to find new ways to obtain members and separate us from everyone else out there.

Best advice

Never stop learning. Absorb everything.

Most valuable part of Council membership

The list serve is priceless. I appreciate the opportunity to talk with my peers about what is going on in the credit union marketing world.

Best part of my job

Giving people the gift of credit union membership. Helping people realize what they have when they belong to a credit union.

Hardest part of my job

There are not enough hours in the day.

Hobbies and interests

Most people don't believe me, but I love to hunt and fish. My husband and I take every chance we can get to take our kids fishing or hunting.

People would be surprised to learn that I . . .

Can bait my own hook when fishing.

Recent book

This is sort of silly, but the last book I read was The Big Book of Presentation Games.

Something that always makes me laugh

My kids laughing. It does not matter if I don't even know what they are laughing at!

If I had an extra hour in the day . . .

I would read more.
