Member Spotlight: Jenny Schaub
Jenny Schaub is marketing manager for Clyde Findlay Area Credit Union in Findlay, Ohio. Raised in Toledo, Jenny graduated with a BA in communications from the University of Toledo. She started with Clyde Findlay Area Credit Union as marketing manager in July 2008 after 15 years of marketing experience in other industries. Biggest challenge Membership growth in our newest market. We became a community-chartered credit union with two main locations, each with very distinctive demographics. Best advice Learn from others—there is no need to reinvent the wheel. Use others' experiences to develop what works for you. Greatest benefit of Council membership The great ideas and sharing of experiences is invaluable. Common ground is the best brainstorming tool. Best part of my job Developing creative campaigns that lead to membership growth. It's great when members (new or existing) gives you a compliment on something they have seen in the community—our name, our logo, our sponsorship—it's well worth the time spent. Hardest part of my job Developing growth plans for two very different markets. Success story In September of 2008 I spearheaded the “Taste of Reality” at our local high school. The event provided freshman students with a "real" look into the actual cost involved with being an adult—this included salaries (minus taxes), cost of day care (based on the number of children they were given), car payments, car insurance, groceries and other monthly expenses that some kids never even knew about. It was a great experience to watch the realization come as each student made their way through "reality.” Biggest misconception about my job Some people believe the extent of my job is to man trade show booths, create parade floats, and do lunch. There is a lot of creative thought involved as well as focus on budgeting and advertising. Choosing where to spend your ad dollars is a job in itself. Hobbies and interests I am addicted to e-mail quizzes—what flower are you, what does your birthday mean, what color should you be? It's all so mundane, but it makes me smile. I have two children who also keep me very busy: a 16-year-old son and a 9-year-old daughter. I'm the mom that weeps at each and every milestone—singing in a play, scoring a soccer goal—I'm a basket case! Recent book Everything She Thought She Wanted by Elizabeth Buchen. Life goals not yet accomplished Being published in a national publication, bungee jumping, and skydiving. Something that always makes me laugh Silly jokes, Barney, How I Met Your Mother. My kids and I sing a song before bed. We usually try to rhyme the day of the week with some sort of activity—“It's a Tuesday, not a blues day,” is one of our favorites. Favorite quote “Life is what happens when you stop making plans.” If I could spend a day with anyone it would be... President Obama—he's the leader of the free world and I find him extremely interesting. How I would explain the credit union different to a prospective new member I concentrate on the locality and mutual ownership. I stress the fact that we are not a corporation—we are a cooperative unit made up of people with a commonality—residency, employment, religion. Our employees and president are local members with the same common bond. We are all members with the same goals: to pool our money to offer the best rates, products, and services for our common membership. CommentsPowered by Comment Script
